PURE FIBER CABLE SERVICE

Post by !HuH! » Mon Sep 27, 2004 2:49 pm

...for anyone interested, a good friend of mine is the sales manager for an internet provider. It's only in certain parts in VA MD and DC....but definitely worth taking a look at.

DOWNLOAD SPEEDS of 7.0 Mbps
UPLOAD SPEEDS of 800 Kbps

http://www.starpower.net/internet/highspeed/index.php

...unfortunately, it's not available to me yet...since its pure fiber connection, there is no piggy back off other companies, and will take a lil longer to stretch this way.

Just thought I'd mention it....

Here is someting I cant figure out. Bellsouth ran fiber optic up the road I live on about 4 years ago, and in fact they dug up my water line in the process, and I have yet to be able to get dsl! :o

And they want run cable cause its about a 400 ft. run to my house!!, unless I pay out the whatzoo.
Or maybe since my dads house can get it in front of me I could run a cable from his house.

dsl has distance limitations. if you are too far from the co (central office) then dsl is a no show. the fiber may have been for voice, not data or possibly for future data if they increase the distance limitations on dsl.

Yea, I have heard that about being so far from a station. I just thought with fiber it wouldn't be a limit.

But the subject here is about fiber cable. Hum, haven't heard if it.

fiber is fiber. it can carry whatever data is needed as long as the protocol being used is the same on both ends. in this case, instead of the cable having a copper core it has fiber. a phone line can just as easily replace the copper pair of wires with fiber. the only real problem is if you bend fiber too much, it will crack/break and goodbye data. not sure if they've overcome this limitation.

WOOHOOOO!!! Verizon just lit up Pittsburgh. That means it should be here within the next year.

Prices:
5Mb/1Mb $35
15Mb/2Mb $45
30Mb/4Mb $139

At that price I'd get rid of my cable for the 15Mb/2Mb option. 8)
