they are both on the same machine...the old barn:

FreeBSD 4.9
ppro 200MHz
128MB ram
16G hd

the catch! its not running on X! :D its all running via tightvnc, which uses its own X emulation/wrapper of sorts (the Xvnc in the process list). so i can connect to the display from any network.internet connection, as long as i have a tightvnc client available  granted, theres that delay, and i cant use sound etc, but its teh best i can do at the time being  :) fwiw, fluxbox is lite enough to effectively run over tighvnc...the xfce is a little heavier over the network though

:ohyeah:

the quick and dirty:

just find the tightvnc server port in freebsd's wonderful ports tree, do a "make install clean" and go find sumn to do for a few, and it should d/l, install and patch a source compiled version, all dependencies taken care of...i think it only required the X libraries from X. then there's a .vncserver file i beleeb in ur home directory (or have to create one) which can contain your wm/desktop, etc. and then from a console or even ssh session i think u run "vncserver <parameters>" (sry, will have to wait til i get home, for a more in-depth description  :) ) and then whould be able to just use the tightvnc client and connect to the vncserver from anywhere with a network connection to the machine :D

:ohyeah:

Does it werk with any vnc, like ultra-vnc or does it have to be tight-vnc?

im not sure...it has several compressions and stuff, maybe even protocols, so u might be able to use other vnc clients too :-? :)

oh - and here are the dependencies if u were to do a "make install"...:

Requires: XFree86-fontDefaultBitmaps-4.3.0, XFree86-fontEncodings-4.3.0, XFree86-libraries-4.3.0_7, expat-1.95.7, fontconfig-2.2.2,1, freetype2-2.1.7_3, imake-4.3.0_2, jpeg-6b_2, pkgconfig-0.15.0_1

WooHoo! I got wireless to work on OpenBSD 3.7 :ggrin:

My ol' laptop, Inspiron 2650 & wireless card is DWL G650, Hardware Version B4

You have to excuse my ugly windowmanger, FVWM. It's OpenBSD's default windowmanager.
