Radar Detectors

Post by [NME]T-Bone » Mon Sep 09, 2002 1:56 am

Now that I'm doing a lot more driving I'm finding myself in need of a good radar detector. Any recommendations?

I'm currently looking at the Valentine One's but they sure are pricey. Perhaps E-Bay.

I know you poor VA people aren't allowed to have these. I never could figure out why considering that anything that is transmitted is considered "free air" and you are supposed to be allowed to recieve it. This is why satellite companies scramble their signal. You can receive them for free, but without a decoder it's a no go. Perhaps I'm missing something.

C'mon people!!! I know that Sandman craps his pants at 110mph :P but you can't tell me the rest of you always drive the speed limit.

I'm averaging ~ 1000 miles/week. I'd like to make 500 of those miles quicker.

I'd offer my opinion, but as one of those poor Virginia people, I gotta speed hunched over the wheel wearing a trench coat and looking over my shoulder for the bubble gum machine 8)

Well at least you're honest papa. You may want to look into the Valentine One. It has an acessory that puts the display below dashboard level so that it doesn't reveal anything to the cops... unless they are using a radar detector - detector. Don't laugh, they really have these.

They also have passive devices that transmit their own signal thus jamming the cops radar detector and giving them a false reading.

True story - I knew a guy who had a Porsche 928, with a facory installed radar detector - the only thing that you could see was a dash indicator. He got pulled over, and the state police literally took his dash and front end apart on the side of the road to confiscate the detector.

Some one told me that by putting aluminum foil in your wheels or hub caps you can avoid the radar detector thing...

I don't think putting foil in your hubcaps will stop the radar detector, but it might protect you from the mind control rays.... :D
