yup, though i forgot to snap more screenshots. :P

graphics: awesome. pics don't do it justice. when the winds pic up and dust start to blow across the fields, and the grass and shrubs are flutering in the wind, it's amazing to watch. the anomilies within the zone are pretty cool.

ai: the ai is good so far. bands of baddie stalkers and militia will surround ya, hide behind objects, and get better vantage shots on you. packs of blind dogs will track you by sound, and scent if close enough. the mutant pigs/boars are pretty nasty too. i haven't encounterd too many other npc's so far.

weapons: you start with only binoculars. so far, only lower end weapons to be found in this part of the zone. i've got a few pistols, some silenced and recently got hold of a shotgun and machine gun. macine gun is auto/semi-auto. i've just recently crossed into a new section of the zone. the baddies are worse, so expecting to get some better weapons. weapons deteriorate over time, so you need to keep backups.

the map is huge. luckily you have a pda that includes map, journal, notes, missions, mission progression, and encylopedia.

stalker: there are day/night cycles as well as different weather patterns. you do not have to sleep. you are equipped w/ a flashlight (head mounted). even though you don't sleep, you do need to eat. that means you have to find food or buy it. walking around at night can be very hazardous due to animals and anomilies. if attacked, eat nuked food, or run into a semi-lethal anomily, you will get radiation poisoning and slowly lose health. you better have an anti-radiation shot handy.

objects: food, health kits, bandages, vodka, and anti-rad kits can be found in a hidden stash, taken off dead stalkers or militia, traded for, or bought. there are different types of relics and precious objects you can find or take that are valuable and can be used for trade or purchases.

gameplay: very open ended so far. game starts when someone finds you in a wrecked death wagon. the only thing on you is the pda with a few notes and a mission to kill this guy (forget his name). you can roam around exploring and killing things, or you can talk to people including bosses. they can assign you missions, some of which are timed (in days). by completing the mission, you gain money and/or goods, plus the trust of that group of stalkers. if you inflict damage to any stalker, you can really piss of their clan/gang. expect to be shot at on sight the next time passing thru.

personally: i think the game is good. it definately kills time on a lazy evening especially since day/night cyles can be kind of long and some missions are easier done during a given cycle. it is definatetly not fast paced. nothing like hl2, far cry, or other fps's, but it has managed to keep my interest so far. my most recent mission has sent me into a new part of the zone, so i'm starting to see many more baddies human and otherwise. anomilies are getting worse.

i'll try to get more pics next time i play.

yeah...even medium is a little taxing on my wee a64 3400 and nvidia 6800gt... :? i think the pace is a bit too slow for my tastes to drop a load on new upgrades, so ill just have to wait until the likes of tf2/portal/ep2/crysis/etc comes out until i can justify the costs... :? :P

im presently in the next zone/level and am moving my way to find the mole and/or get the briefcase.

hrmm... actually, it played really well on my 7800gtx. the patch seems to have made it a tad sluggish indoors using the same vid settings, but not bad enough that i need to change them.

ya, that's where i'm at. next zone near the garbage. only took about 15 minutes to accomplish the first task (get the flash disk). so, did you slip past the militia, bribe them, or risk going thru the tunnel to get to the next zone? 1st time i played, i snuck past the militia at night. this time i used the tunnel. gotta use bolts and time the anomilies.

linky to patch

mostly multiplayer fixes. lol@ #68

my wee system is like the bare minimum or somewhere near it  :P medium seemed ok when the game first started in the shopkeep's...then i went outside... so now im playing it on "minimum" and have it on static lighting...i figure lighting is usually one of the most taxing.

neither...i tried going down the tunnel a coupla times but kept getting shocked...eventually i wondered my way to the other side of the bridge, and theres a cut-thru in the fence, so you can go that way :P ;) dont think ive made it to a night cycle yet, though it does seem to be getting darker...the guys have their headlamps on now. the last place i died before calling it a night was after a big hanger type building after fighting off/clearing out some bandits.

also found out the hard way that if you get near or over your carrying weight, that it slows you down and you can sprint as long, and even get tired to the point that you have to stop and rest a min. :drinking: and im not too crazy with how slow the weapons switch when using the mouse wheel...having to cycle thru each individual weapon, instead of cycling thru to teh one you want and selecting it  ...sure, i could use the number slotss, but im so used to the mousewheel... :pbt: ;)

dang dude, you must not have searched around very long if ya haven't hit a night cycle yet. check your pda for stashes & stuff you may have recovered from other's pda's or info other peeps gave ya. you can highlight certain items on the map, then the arrow on your mini-map will lead ya to it. i spent 4 or 5 days in the 1st zone the first time i played. 2nd time around, i knew who to talk to and where to go in order to get lots of stash - maybe spent 1/2 day instead of 5 days.

 the tunnel is tough, but if you throw a bolt in, they will discharge for a few seconds, giving ya time to run past. just stand clear when you toss a bolt as the discharge covers a big area.

Just picked this up but have yet to install it. Thought I'd get it for $30 while it was on sale. It will probably be a week before I get to it though.

I'm not sure if you got this or not, but the Best Buy copies have a password to unlock a multiplayer map pack. If interested you are supposed to go to the Stalker folder in the Start Menu and run Unlock Code. Type in "snork".

I also picked up God of War 2 on the PS2 so that is where I will be spending game time right now (had some gift cards from Christmas to unload). Part 1 was a blast so I'm assuming I'll get sucked right into part 2 as well. :D

the game definately picks up once you get to the second get the documents mission (after meeting with the bar tender/trader). you'll have better rifles, a scoped rifle, you can find a scope to put on your other rifle, explosives, and other nifty stuff. The mutants are getting tougher (damn psy-mutant), and the baddies are a lil more frequent, except now at least you've got decent weapons and can kill them more easily at a distance.

ummm... only certain suits/jackets/armor have a flashlight. if you got rid of a jacket or just not currently wearing it, then you may be without a flashlight.
