HL2

Post by [NME]T-Bone » Mon Jul 07, 2003 12:59 pm

According to planet-HL, scheduled release date is 9/30/2003.

While the new engine has all sorts of fancy features, it's still designed to scale and work on lower-end machines. Apparently a 700mhz processor and a video card capable of running DX6 is enough, although a 2ghz with a GeForce4 is recommended. Rumors about NVidia or ATI exclusivity are unfounded.

The Barnacle will live on forever... gulp, won't it? :(

And HL2 had better run on older computers! I'm not ready to put down money for a new 'puter just yet. I wonder when TF2 will come out?

Four more months to HL2 release. Too bad it won't be released September 30 as earlier planned.

"Vivendi Universal says that Valve is now scheduled to complete the game in time for the holidays."

"When Valve announced Half-Life 2 in early May, some were surprised by Valve's firm insistence that the game would be ready to ship on September 30. Today we received word from the game's publisher, Vivendi Universal, that Half-Life 2's release has been delayed until later this year. :onfire: Without commenting on the delay, a Vivendi Universal representative reaffirmed that the game would ship this year, sometime during the holiday season."

Man, that's a bummer. But I guess it's better to release it with next to no bugs. Also read in a forum that it would sell on New Year's Eve. After Christmas??? :madnoel:

If you view the following Gamespot page you'll see TF2's release date as 11/15/04  Oh my!!! Another year??? Are they programming with their pinky toes or smoking weed, or maybe even both?

HL3 is already planned so HL2 will have another cliff-hanger ending. Bah! why even play?

With all the fancy grafix turned off I might get a good 15 fps out of her. hopefully a 2ghz processor can help compensate, but somehow I doubt it.

That's why I'm looking for a new video card. I still have GeForce 2 and it's more than 3 years old. Even though, it's still good but I doubt it'd be great with HL2 or Doom 3.

I don't mind to try ATI but I'm hesitated to buy one. I never have owned ATI card before and it is sort of "okay" to use with Linux. ATI isn't supported well on FreeBSD. :(

Any comments on ATI?

I'm sorry I don't know anything about how ATI cards work with *nix, but I use the ATI Radeon 7200 with WinXP Pro and I don't have any probs. The card is a couple of years old and runs well. :okay1:

From what I've read the Radeon 9600 cards and up really rock. :ohyeah: :D
