Boat, I have a question regarding our Mustang clubs forum.

We are being overrun with people or something joining and placing porn videos and sites on it. Is there any security questions or something to help eliminate it?

bah, sry, i dunno, never really had that problem it looks like all your boards are setup that you must be registered to post, so you would think that would eliminate anything like that. i'm running the newest release of phpbb, 3.0, so there's not much i can check on the barn for comparison. can't remember if 2.x has visual confirmation or not, but if it does, maybe enabling that for registration can cut down on it (assuming its some sort of automated/bot thing). if it doesnt, you can probably find a mod or something to install that has it, because i think when i was running phpbbplus, it had it (which was based on 2.x).

Ok a lot of time has passed since that post and there was some changes with our club forum, and for the bad.

Our club ended up having to find another person to do a website for us. And he bought the brmcoa.com domain and then handed all the work off to his friend.
So we ended up this mess. http://brmcoa.com/forum/

Long story short, our president and members are very disappointed with this. We didn't want a upgraded forum.
So we have tried to buy, beg , borrow that domain to no avail so I can make a website for our club. And I would like to also have a forum. But that will be a new experience for me.
So by this weekend Im going to buy the brmcoa.org domain, find a host and start fresh.

Now here is where you, "Boat" I hope can tell if its would be possible for me to transfer the members and posts from his forum to a new phpBB3 board.
I did get the user/pass from him to access his files. We are just not telling him we are building a new site, at all. We're just going to move on and forget him.

I really like the way your board looks. Is this a default style?

well somewhat good news is that it appears to be running phpBB at it's core, so transferring any members, posts, etc shouldn't be a problem. only problem(s) that may come up with that is if it is running any special mods, such as something that adds a link to a gallery of you car or something to that effect...so you may lose some things in that aspect. also, what i'm running here (the barn) is a straight, no frills forum/bbs software...nothing more, nothing less. so if you wanted like a front page or portal or anything of that nature, it would have to be separate, unless you can find some sort of mod or anything that adds that functionality. for instance, before i upgraded to phpbb3, i was running a mod that added a plethora of goodies and was also a portal, which is more like a easy to read front page.

as noted, i'm running the latest release which is phpbb3, but they also have the 2.x series online as well.

as well have some dedicated "mod" forums for people that create mods/add-ons for the software...

oh, and yes, this is the default style/layout/template for phpbb3 (assuming you're using the one that has the avatars and such on the right hand side)

Ok, I was only interested in the members list and their posts. Links to anything I dont care about. In fact he lost a lot of our gallery and a few other things when he moved it.
What I want to do is link the forum from our site once I get it up and running.

Now as I understand it I have to have phpBB3 of course, and mysql and php all installed on the host.
The install of the phpbb looks pretty clear. But the mysql and php Im not sure about, especially the proper directories for them.

I d/led phpBB3.0, mysql 5.0 and php 5.25 and thought I would try it on http://x10hosting.com/ I set up temporarily but this is over my head.

I do like this layout and color you have but I didn't actually notice the avatars on the right till you mentioned it.

Wonder if these hosts are anygood? Maybe HostMonster or Startlogic.

Well I finally got my first board up and running. I had to get x10 to update the DB version and to community.

Now to figure out how to make groups, forums etc.

I just did a Google search and our new site was hit, and get this. This forum was on top. I was wondering when Google would find it since they dont really read the meta tags anymore. Thanks to the porn industry abusing it.

But yes, after 3 hosts I finally ended up on Hostgator.com and I have phpBB3 up. Wow, what a learning curve its been the last two weeks.
