Hey Boat.
I have been meaning to ask something about these bulletin boards.
I visit many forums all day long and I was wondering if I post on one of them and a mod comes along and deletes the post & pics, can the admin go back and look at the post? Or just a log?

Thanks,

Dennis

i think that once its gone, its gone. only way they could see it is if it was moved to a different forum (as if they might have a hidden forum for "deleted" posts) but hat seems like it would be more trouble than its worth, so if deleted, can probably consider it bye-bye :? only log would be in the web servers log, but that would only show the link to the delete post command, not the post itself.

yup, most likely an sql back end. a delete command is pretty permanent.

Well I guess the admin of this board http://www.helifreak.com/ didn't see what I had posted and he is jumping on me.

It was a case of to many gun hoe mods running it and the admin not looking over it entirely. And to think I have known the guy for over 20 years. Some of these boards take on a personality of a cult and his followers and when a stranger registers, you best do it their way.

Well you know what to do to him and the horse he rode in on. :o

So how can I setup one of these? :D jk

So how you been Boat, T-Bone?

why would he jump on you for something you posted that has been deleted by someone else? :?

its pretty easy to setup really. just need a webhost or server and the software requiresments (which most hosts have covered), and viola :P thats for a plain, out of hte box vanilla install. if you wanted something more custom looking or with all the ads and stuff like that link you posted, then it would take a little bit of elbow grease :pbt: ;)

ive been. you? dont u have cable or dsl now? howsit?

Yea, Im on Charter cable now. You know these tight wads only give you 20 megs of space! Hell, AT&T gave me 150 megs but it was dialup.

And I dont want some ole free space I cant stand the popups and banners.
Course I could start there and setup a forum just for the sake of learning from it.

i know... :P

well you can try that software, which i have running here, or just the 'vanilla' phpbb, which is just straight forums.

some things to look out for/think about are...
-server software (what kinda os do you wanna run. when i was running from home, it was freebsd...so if you use a unix variant, ie, freebsd, linux, etc, there will be a learning curve)
-ports (as you may remember, the old barn was run off port 8080, due to the isp blocking port 80, the default http port...doesnt have to be 8080 though. then of course you may have to tinker with your firewall/router/etc)

there is a geek or two on the barn, so any problems or questions... :P

;)

OK all you php gurus...

I just installed php but I want to add a calendar type thingie and I also want to be able to have a menu on the left hand side that pulls up static page information (if at all possible). Any recommendations on where to look or how to do it?

Thanks

Jeremy

well it may be a bit extra than youre looking for, but i converted this to phpbbplus a while back... http://www.phpbb2.de/

pretty feature-rich, though i think i like the calendar mod i used to have on hte old boards better than this on. if you look theres probably a mod for what youre looking for :pbt: phpbb.com has a mod database of "approved/working" mods for looksies. :P
